ABOUT VILNA WOOLHEAD

I was born and educated in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and am married with two adult children.

Working as a Funeral Director at William Weller Funeral Directors in Sompting has given me a unique insight into the needs of the community.

I was first elected to West Sussex County Council in 2001. During this term I was a committee member of the Education Select Committee, Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education and Rights of Way, also a governor of Boundstone Community College.

Being elected as your Councillor was a life changing moment.  Since then it’s been busy, tiring, challenging and absolutely fabulous.  I have had the opportunity of meeting and helping so many people that I would not have met in normal circumstances.

I have worked together with the Residents Liaison Group to resolve the long-standing problems suffered by residents of Halewick Lane.  This resulted in WSCC putting into effect a traffic calming scheme and finally into the closure of the amenity site.

My re-election in 2005 strengthened my resolve to find solutions to local issues affecting Sompting residents.  I am now in discussion with our MP Tim Loughton to make sure that local people have their say on the traffic problems and rush hour rat run through Sompting Village.

In addition to being Deputy Cabinet Member for Adult Services at WSCC,  I also chair the Learning Difficulties Partnership Board. I have also continued to be a member of the Rights of Way and  am a governor of Boundstone Community College.
